Hailing from London, another extremely interesting speaker is coming to Days of Communications in Rovinj – he is Mr. Bingo, whose performances and actions set him apart from the masses. Mr. Bingo is a top-notch illustrator, architect of successful, controversial projects such as the Hate Mail, in which strangers paid him to send offensive, uniquely illustrated postcards.
Following the success of this project and a couple of similar, some would say ridiculous projects, Mr. Bingo decided to say goodbye to working exclusively for a client and a company, and make a living as a free artist.
“Mr. Bingo’s intriguing character is illustrated by the fact that the prestigious The Guardian named him ‘troll for hire’. He animates ideas that many would be ashamed to put into words, and Mr. Bingo manages to monetize these provocative and seemingly absurd ideas in a very successful manner, building his career that way,” said the Director of the Days of Communications and the festival’s program director, Dunja Ivan Ballon.
In his lecture in Rovinj, titled Alternative way of earning a living, he will take us through the last 20 years of his life, marked by a number of successful projects, and some less successful, such as the one where he tried to sell a year of his friendship.
For many, it is still not clear how he does this, but Mr. Bingo earns a living by designing seemingly absurd projects. As part of one of the projects, he rewarded participants of his Kickstarter campaign with house cleaning, binging in a train, sending pornographic drawings of the queen, or a rude call on Christmas.
Mr. Bingo, a world-renowned master of provocation who doesn’t care about other’s opinions, today has a noteworthy portfolio behind him, with clients such as Microsoft, BBC, Nike, Volkswagen and MTV.
