I’ve always admired people who possess the magic of creativity. Because of my minuteness and transience in the creative cosmos, I have to say that God did not endow me with special creative abilities, making my profound awe for the great creative ideas of successful people from the communications industry all the greater. For almost five decades I have borne witness to the development of creativity in the communications industry of the former Yugoslavia (today ‘the region’), Europe and the world. I always tremble when I recognize a great creative idea, and always with the same passion, all these years. Hence the idea to write the book The Best of Creative Directors, in which I present the 26 most successful Creative Directors of the Adriatic Region, and their 130 campaigns.
It is my selection of the best creative directors. I usually consult with my friends and co-workers on smaller projects, but for all large-scale projects – and this book is one – I always make the decisions on my own and take full responsibility. If I fall, I fall by my own sword.
Regarding the creative directors who are presented in this book, I am certain that it is their rightful place to be in it. Should anyone else have been present on its pages? Probably yes. First of all, one of the best, my friend Dušan Drakalski, for whom the winning of Cannes Lions and other big international awards has almost become a hobby. The fact that he is not in this book is his own decision. He did not send his works, and why he decided not to do so, only he knows. He’ll have to tell me one day.
The book will be completed at the Zagreb based Printera on Thursday, 15 December. On Friday (16 December) there will be a promotion in Zagreb, on Monday (19 December) in Ljubljana, on Tuesday (20 December) in Belgrade, and on Thursday (22 December) in Sarajevo. It will be an opportunity to meet many friends at the end of the year, and to celebrate our successes this year together. At the same time, the regional edition of Mitja Tuškej’s book No Friends, No Brands will also roll out, which we are publishing and which I translated from Slovenian language. Both books will be promoted together, by the two old war friends, Mitja and I.
I am very grateful to I&F McCann Grupa, whose sponsorship made it possible for The Best of Creative Directors to see the light of day. I am also grateful to my friend Žare Kerin, who accepted the task of Art Director and made this book visually as it is – great. Also thank you to the people of the printing house Printera from Zagreb, well-known as providers of the highest quality printing. And, finally, thank you to all the creative directors who collaborated in the creation of this book. I thank them from the bottom of my heart. I hope they will be pleased with what I’ve done to present them in the best possible way in this book.
