When New York Times reported about famous producer Harvey Weinstein sexually harassing women in the film industry, the world was in disgrace – or at least it looked that way. Soon after, multiple actresses spoke about this issue and dozens of accusations came to the surface pointing to the co-founder of the Miramax Films production company. At the speed of light, the #MeToo spread on social networks, becoming a specific movement for the protection of women’s rights.
When the gender issue connected to the film industry appeared to be out of focus, the very same issue related to the creative industry came in the spotlight. One after another, women shared their stories, openly speaking about the unpleasant situations they were put in by their male counterparts. Some men have lost their jobs due to such accusations, but the questions have remained: Where would these talented women be now, had they been supported, instead of hindered, and what would the creative industry look like?
Golin Agency, which operates in more than 60 countries, including Serbia, decided to take action. In order to encourage women and help them return to the creative industry, as well as to promote the importance of equal opportunities for all, Golin has launched a global campaign “Have Her Back,” calling on other companies to engage in hiring, training and empowering female creatives.
The creative women that the campaign is directed towards are those who left agencies due to sexual harassment or bias in the workplace, or those who have soldiered on with little to show for it. The campaign is also meant to have an impact on both the women and the men who can facilitate their former colleagues’ return to work, thus creating together a culture of equal opportunities.
Within the campaign, the “Have Her Back” website is launched along with materials for social properties, ads for social posting and ads for printing – which already hang on the walls of Golin offices worldwide. A video is launched as well, presenting women who were insulted, harassed or simply ignored exclusively on a sex basis.
Golin, which employs 70 percent of women and nurtures a proactive and empowering culture and Golin Belgrade invite all the colleagues around the globe to support the campaign “Have Her Back”.
For the biggest abusers, time is up. For her, the time is now.
