Communications industry gathered from 30 March to 2 April in Rovinj. Those days, HURA and IAB Croatia held the fifth edition of the festival Days of Communication, which brought some of the world’s biggest names in the field of marketing communications and thus attracted a record number of 2,400 registered delegates.
We are immensely proud of the high standard of this year’s Days of Communication which has attracted almost 50% more participants than last year,” said Dunja Ivana Ballon, director of the festival Days of Communication.
Ballon points out that according to initial statistics, this issue has raised the bar for the next year and explains: “In the three days of the festival, through three parallel programs in three full halls, visitors have listened to 16 international lecturers, including some really big stars such as political consultant Alex Braun and controversial founder of the torrenting site The Pirate Bay, Peter Sunde. I would also mention the excellent panels, workshops, discussions and parties. Four professional competitions, Effie, IdejaX, Mixx and Young Lions, registered a total of 227 competitive projects, and apart from this record number of competing projects, we also had a record number of awards won – as much as 50. The festival surpassed all of our expectations, which were pretty high.”
The greatest attention of visitors attracted the co-founder of the portal The Pirate Bay, Peter Sunde, who talked about the responsibility and power in content sharing in the digital world. Crowded main festival hall had the opportunity to listen to the controversial advocate of free access to content, and find out about all the projects he dealt with from the very beginning of the torrent site.
In the part of the lecture about the power in the digital world, Sunde underlined that it is important to become aware that each of us is given an opportunity to be the creator of content and that we thus influence each other. On the other hand, it is clearly a significant power that should be used in a responsible manner.
Along with Peter Sunde, guests at the Days of Communication were Natasha Jen (partner, Pentagram), Chuck Porter (co-founder, Crispin Porter + Bogusky), Yasuharu Sasaki (Chief Creative Officer, Dentsu Aegis Network), Alex Braun (political consultant, SKDKnickerbocker) Alexandra Wheeler (until recently vice-president for digital marketing, Starbucks), Fredrik Ost and Erik Kockum (cofounders, agency SNASK), Vesselin Popov (Center for psychometrics, Cambridge), Mark Shayler (cofounder, DO Lectures), Simon Cook (Director of competition, Cannes Lions) and many others.
