HDD: TWO EXAMPLES FROM THE SCHOOL OF DESIGN – DESIGN FOR SOCIAL CHANGE (2 – 15 JUNE)
On Thursday, 2 June, at 20.00 hours, exhibition Design for Social Change will open at the HDD Gallery. It’s the first of two exhibition setups unified under the title Two Examples from the School of Design.
It is a thorough presentation of the project realized in cooperation of Design Studio and the Center for Peace Studies in 2014 and 2015, which dealt with issues of xenophobia and racial discrimination in both theoretical and practical aspects. The authors of the exhibition are Ivana Fabrio, Petra Vrdoljak and Dorja Benussi. The exhibition is jointly organized by Croatian Designers Society and the School of Design. (HDD)
SAŠA SAVIĆ JURY PRESIDENT OF ADWEEK’S MEDIA PLAN OF THE YEAR
For over 20 years Adweek has been organizing its Media Plan of the Year competition, which celebrates the most dynamic media plans and executions done by media departments and agencies for their clients.
Adweek recently published a list of the members of the jury of this year’s Media Plan of the Year competition. As might be expected, the jury consists of top experts of the communications industry, and are led by a Sarajevan, Saša Savić, CEO of Mediacom, a media agency that last year in this contest won three Media Plan of the Year awards.
Entries are open until 11 July, and eligible to apply are agencies and media departments around the world, with works that appeared in public for the first time between 30 June 2015 and 30 June 2016. Entries are assessed on for creativity and effectiveness of their media plans in meeting the objectives of the client, and the winners will be presented in September this year. (Adweek)
GOOGLE HAS INCREASED ITS LEAD AS THE WORLD’S TOP MEDIA OWNER AND SHOWS NO SIGNS OF SLOWING
Five digital giants now account for 19 per cent of all global advertising, of which Google alone commands 12 per cent, according to a report by ZenithOptimedia.
Alphabet, Google’s holding company, now generates $60bn in media revenues, 166 per cent more than its nearest competitor, Walt Disney. That is a 21 per cent increase on the previous year.
The five digital companies, made up of Alphabet/Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Yahoo and Baidu, the Chinese internet service, command nearly one fifth of all global advertising spend.
They collectively generate $88bn in media revenue, about a third (34 per cent) of all the revenues made by the top 30 media owners. That represents two-thirds (65 per cent) of all internet advertising globally.
While Google has maintained its spot as number one, Facebook is fast approaching, posting a 65 per cent increase in media revenues since last year, making it is the fastest growing media owner.
ORANGE GIVES EURO 2016’S MOST PASSIONATE FANS CONTROL OF THE EIFFEL TOWER
Orange is incentivising fan engagement at Euro 2016 by giving supporters the chance to adorn one of the most famous landmarks in the world with the colours of their country as part of its Orange Sponsors You campaign.
As the official sponsor and telecoms provider for the tournament, Orange has partnered with the City of Paris to showcase the passion of fans at Euro 2016 by illuminating the Eiffel Tower with the colours of the most supported nation.
Throughout the competition Orange will analyse fan support across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram by monitoring the number of posts hashtags for each nation such as #Eng for England and #Fra for France.
Then 10 minutes after the end of each day’s final game the Eiffel Tower will be transformed with a unique light show in the colours of the most backed nation.
SOCIAL MEDIA NOW MORE DOMINANT THAT TRADITIONAL MEDIA AS A SOURCE FOR NEWS
Traditional media outlets must shift their focus to social media platforms in order to more effectively reach readers, according to a new study by Pew Research Center which shows Facebook is now the dominant source for news.
The ‘News Use Across Social Media Platforms 2016’ report found that Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and even Snapchat have emerged as the go-to sources for news.
Having surveyed over 4,600 people Pew found that 62 per cent of Americans rely more on the social media platforms for news that they do traditional media.
Facebook, which has around 222 million monthly active users across the US and Canada, emerged as the number one source with 66 per cent of those questioned admitting that they use the platform for consuming news.
THE X FACTOR ALLOWS CONTESTANTS TO AUDITION VIA FACEBOOK LIVE
The upcoming thirteenth series of music competition “The X Factor” will begin airing in August 2016 and broadcaster ITV’s hunt for new talent is already underway. Apart from the regular auditions in cities across the UK and the opportunity to apply online via submitting a video, this year singers can additionally audition via Facebook Live. This global first audition opportunity for a talent show was announced on May 24. Registration will be open until May 27.
To register for a Facebook Live audition, talents have to visit the official “The X Factor” Facebook page and access the ‘X Factor Auditions’ app. After agreeing to continue with their Facebook info, the users are asked to fill out a form to book a Facebook Live audition slot. The auditions will take place in private, closed groups with “The X Factor” producers. If the producers are impressed by the singers’ talent, they will be invited to audition in front of the show’s judges in June.
Fittingly, the Facebook Live auditions were announced and kicked off by the show’s host Dermot O’Leary in a Facebook Live video.
