A mattress store in the US has been slammed hard on social media after sharing what many Americans assessed as the most offensive ad ever, writes The Huffington Post. The ad lasts only 21 seconds, but it was enough to enter the category of the greatest stupidities in the history of marketing.
In the ad, promoting 9/11 anniversary sale, two employees slam screaming into “the New York twins” made of mattresses. Of course, the ad was removed in record time, but a timely reaction by a marketing specialist from San Antonio ensured the ad is seen by many. He took a cell phone and later released the video on YouTube, which quickly became viral.
It can be safely said that the ad has destroyed the company’s business, because every second comment on social media calls for a boycott of the company, and their rating on Facebook has quickly dropped to 1 star.
The company in question is Miracle Mattress, and after the entire debacle it has closed its doors “indefinitely”. The storm of comments on company’s Facebook page continues, despite the apology offered by owner Mike Bonanno: “I say this unequivocally, with sincere regret: the video is tasteless and an affront to the men and women who lost their lives on 9/11.”
