The sixth Shift Conference, largest developer conference in South East Europe, closed last Friday at the Croatian National Theater in Split, Croatia.
The second day of the most anticipated developer conference was opened with a lecture by Goran Cvijanović from ReversingLabs on “Big Data”. Una Kravets from DigitalOcean, a company that provides cloud services for implementation of apps that simultaneously run on multiple computers, gave a speech on the user interface, advanced design and image optimization. In December 2015, DigitalOcean was the second largest hosting company in the world in terms of the number of hosted websites.
An interesting lecture was given by Stefan Thies from company Sematext. Stefan talked about the Docker, a platform that accelerates app development, and Elasticsearch, an open source search server. However, the biggest hit was a lecture by Dominik Kunda, who on the stage presented a hacked coffee machine.

In addition to practical workshops, which are a novelty this year, the largest exhibition space so far was also packed throughout the day. VR and AR devices, a robot that cooks, foosball, PlayStation, contests, cocktails, DJs, hostesses, food and drink drew in the young developers.
The closing ceremony
The two-day event was closed by: Joško Stella from the Tourist Board of Split-Dalmatia County, Tomislav Aljinović from Splitska banka, Zlatko Ževrnja, Mayor of Split-Dalmatia County, director of Five Luka Abrus and Ivan Burazin, the main organizer of Shift Conference.
They were joined on stage by the winners of the regional finals of Microsoft Imagine Cup, who will compete in the world finals in late July. AuThink from Split represented Croatia at the world finals in 2014, where the team won the Special Audience Award. Knowlead is a social network for learning which the Webit festival ranked among the 100 most promising startups in Europe. The project was presented by Ekrem Nurović, student of management at the International Burch University, and director of the startup Knowlead.
Sweepstakes winners were also announced at the closing ceremony. JetBrains shared ten software licenses, Aspira rewarded Mia Pavlinović with a free scholarship to study IT, valued at 90,000 HRK, and Sony made three visitors very happy with a Bluetooth Headset and two smartphones.
Over the two days the conference gathering more than 1,500 visitors from around the world. Shift thus confirmed its status as the largest developer conference in South East Europe. The latest technology, the most modern equipment and the most successful speakers from the world of IT make this conference definitely worth a visit.
