This year the Foundation “Register of National Internet Domain of Serbia” (RNIDS), within the framework of the “European cyber security month”, on 20 October, from 11.00h, will organize a panel discussion titled “Spamming is a fool’s joy” at the Museum of Science and Technology, Skenderbegova 51, Belgrade.
Every day our e-mail inboxes are bombarded with unsolicited ads and other messages, but also messages with far more dangerous content, as part of a major spamming package of unlawful conduct on the internet. Spamming is a serious and complex social phenomenon that the participants of the panel discussion will try to examine in all of its aspects: legal, security, marketing and education. The definition of spam says that these are unsolicited mass messages, regardless of their content, and that the spamming is an issue of consent by the recipient and the method of sending, and is not a question of message content. In Serbia, there are frequent illicit business practices by some companies and organizations which, contrary to four state laws, disturb the citizens with spamming their mailboxes, sending unsolicited e-mails or text messages, and unwanted calls on land lines mobile phones.
Moderator of the panel discussion “Spamming is a fool’s joy”, Jelena Ožegovic, is an associate for marketing and communication at RNIDS, and participants are five national experts and a guest from Slovenia, Gorazd Božič, director of SI-CERT, as a keynote speaker. He will speak about Slovenia’s experiences related to spam, on whether there is “good” and “bad” spam, what are the costs of everyday spamming, whether spam should be legally prosecuted or is it a war that is already lost?
Jovan Šikanja, security administrator for Limundo, will speak about the hazardous forms of spamming, when malicious software is sent via email (viruses, malware, ransomware…), as well as internet fraud – from the famous Nigerian prince to phishing.
Žarko Ptiček, IT lawyer from the company Ptiček, will give an overview of the regulations that deal with the sending of unsolicited messages. He will explain how to adjust your marketing approach to legislation and how to lawfully process personal data, as well as the options available to those who believe that their rights have been violated.
Boško Radivojević, co-founder of Mainstream, will talk about the technical aspects of spamming from the perspective of internet providers and all the things that users of email servers should be careful about when sending mass messages.
Vladan Babić, chief specialist for network and information security at the Center for responding to attacks on information systems of Serbian Ministry of Interior, will explain the reasons for investing in the defense against spam, and how an average internet user can protect themselves against malicious spamming.
Branko Vukomanović, creative director of Trilenium agency will speak about the marketing aspects of mass messaging in a permissible way, about creating content and designing e-mail messages and monitoring the performance of such campaigns.
