The series of memorable posters by Amer Mržljak for the Festival MESS, including the ‘banned one’ from 2003, posters for cult shows, movies, Jazz Fest … all were brought together in a collection that can be viewed in the gallery Novi Hram in Sarajevo.
“The exhibition presents a selection of posters made in the last 17 years. These are works that are related to various cultural events and include festivals, cinema, music and theater posters. Most of them are a result of the creative process within the agency Fabrika, where I am a member of the team,” Mržljak said for Radiosarajevo.ba.
When asked how important was it that the posters communicate with an engaging message, Mržljak said: “In my creations I try to give a comment on the current moment in which they were created. Poster is a medium of communication and some of them have the thematic potential to be engaging, but for others some different imperatives can be set. In the end, it greatly depends on the sensibility of the designer. Whenever possible, I try to initiate awareness about an issue. Creativity should always test the boundaries of conventional, and public standards should be viewed in a broader temporal and spatial context. In today’s world engagement often requires a provocative statement to highlight a certain topic.”
The exhibition was opened in the presence of a large number of guests. You can see the atmosphere in our photo gallery.
