Darko Horvat, head of controlling, BMW marketing and BMW engines Slovenia, is another golf player, and today he shares his experiences and suggestions with us.
Media Marketing: Why and when did you decide to play golf?
Darko Horvat: I had a chance to try out a new sport.
Media Marketing: What is it that golf has and other sports don’t?
Darko Horvat: In fact it’s hard to say what it is, but it has “something”. Calmness, competition with yourself and others, every shot is different, a lot of different courses (each course is different), you can talk about everything with your opponent… Everyone can play it: old, young, tall, small, thin, fat, men, women… It’s not rough and there are almost no injuries.
Media Marketing: How are you progressing? How far have you gone?
Darko Horvat: Slowly. I can play at all courses (the HCP allows me). I still play for joy, not for result.
Media Marketing: How much time every week do you dedicate to golf?
Darko Horvat: I play 2-3 times a month.
Media Marketing: Have you participated in some tournaments?
Darko Horvat: Yes.
Media Marketing: BMW has its own golf tournament in Slovenia which is actually held today. Could you tell us something about that tournament?
Darko Horvat: Our company has a tournament on 27 May. Roughly 100 players register for the tournament. Everyone knows each other more or less. In the end it’s a one big family that plays, talks, eats, drinks and has fun.
Media Marketing: Do you follow golf on TV?
Darko Horvat: Rarely. I only follow results from big PGA tournaments.
Media Marketing: Would you advise others to pick up a golf club?
Darko Horvat: Yes, but only if they are highly motivated. I know a lot of people who started playing golf and gave up. Everyone thought that already after two weeks they would be able to hit the ball and sending 100 meters away, because they saw it on TV or they saw other players on the course. Golf is a very demanding sport, and it’s said that golf players only after five years of playing have some kind of idea of what’s it all about. There is some truth to it.
