Marketing yourself
We’ve learned from a 21-year-old YouTube star Meredith Foster – who has 4.7 million followers – how to market the brand when the brand is you. According to her opinion, the creation and publication of content is very important, but not enough. Namely, engaging your audience is the most important thing. Only if you have the passion, the love and interest in the area that you deal with, then your content will be authentic, innovative and honest, and the audience will know how to appreciate that and reward you by following and constant desire for new posts.
CEO and co-founder of VaynerMedia Gary Vaynerchuk in his characteristic manner talked about fear of failure as one of the biggest brakes in the development of ideas and explained how to overcome it. Gary V. tells us that social networks are such a powerful tool, which allows us the easiest way to achieve business success if we have a unique story and quality, regardless of external influences and the environment in which we live. In addition to the Panda and the Central stage, attention was drawn by the Sports stage, where the main stars were former football players Ronaldinho, who presented his football academy and the online reality platform Zoome, and Luis Figo, with a start-up project Dream Football, which allows football players (professionals and amateurs) around the world to post their video and catch the attention of scouts of famous football clubs. This eliminates the distance between young talents and great teams, and streamlines the path to a professional career, while chances are the same for all, which contributes to a fair selection.
Future of driving
An unavoidable buzz topic at this year’s Web Summit were autopilot cars. BMW presented the video that shows how the car detects the road ahead, the other cars, pedestrians, obstacles on the road and the like. Although it is evident that they are quite advanced in this area, people from BMW invited startups to offer ideas to carmakers, so this concept could roll out in the streets as soon as possible, and according to their announcements, the first such four-wheelers will appear in five years.
In the selection for the CEO of the Year, Tesla’s visionary Elon Musk took the title, placing the automotive industry in the first place in terms of the introduction of new technologies in actual use.
The finale of the Web Summit was marked by the exciting and uncertain competition of startups. There were a lot of good ideas. The prize of 100,000 euros went to the Danish startup Kubo Robot. Kubo is an educational robot and a platform aimed to make learning fun for kids, and to enable them to master programming, music, mathematics, etc. through play.
Lisbon has proven to be an exceptional host and everything in this hilly town catered to the visitors of the Web Summit. It can be said that the world of technology fell in love with the Portuguese capital as a result of natural beauty, proximity to the beach to surf which those adventurous love, good weather in late autumn, and because of the hospitable hosts, but also a large number of educated individuals, volunteers and affordable prices. The agreement was that everyone would meet again in 365 days in the same place, but with the new ideas that call for dedicated and responsible work.
