In the modern winery Vina Belje on the Ban hill in Baranja, on Friday in the presence of numerous guests from all over the region, the feast of St. Vinko, patron of wine growers, which the people of Baranja call Vinceška, was marked.
Traditionally, Vinceška marks the start of pruning in the vineyards and the beginning of a new vintage. The first year’s pruning in Belje vineyards was led by Davor Bošnjaković, director of Belje d.d., together with Ljerka Puljić, member of the Supervisory Board of Agrokor and Goran Miličević, director of winery Belje.
Vina Belje start the new vintage with excellent results from the previous year in which they sold 3.2 million liters of wine, of which more than 2.5 million liters of high quality and superior graševina (Riesling), which is the main wine of Vina Belje. Riesling is the most widespread grape variety in Croatia, and given the fact that 25% of the wines produced in Croatia are Riesling, sales volumes and top quality of Graševina Belje best present the growing demand for Riesling and consumer awareness about its quality and value.

“Vinceška is a great start of the winegrowing season that will, we believe, be better than the last one and will bring another exceptional vintage. Belje continue the strategy of growth and development, so we have planned renovation of 40 hectares of vineyards that are located just above our winery and which we cleared a few months ago. In the sale of wine, we keep the focus on the domestic market, but at the same time we are opening new foreign markets, because the numerous prizes and awards in international competitions confirm the great potential of our wines,” said Davor Bošnjaković.
