The hall of the University of Zagreb was too small for all those who on Friday wanted to listen to the discussion on the topic “Directive on copyright in the Digital Single Market of EU: Articles 11 and 13”. Academics, scientists, professors and students, music and film artists, politicians, and numerous journalists followed the presentation with great interest and then participated in the discussion.
The guests were greeted by prof. dr. sc. Damir Boras, rector of the University of Zagreb and prof. dr. sc. Miljenko Šimpraga, Vice President for Innovation, Technology Transfer and Communication at the University of Zagreb, and the panel was moderated by Elizabeta Gojan, journalist and editor of HRT. Panel participants were PhD. Nina Obuljen Koržinek, Minister of Culture, MEPs Dubravka Šuica, Jozo Radoš, and Željana Zovko and Prof. dr. sc. Romana Matanovac Vučković, Head of the Postgraduate Study “Intellectual Property”.
“The Copyright Directive on the Digital Single Market will not ‘kill’ the Internet and will not introduce censorship, and all that the end users have been able to do so far, they will continue to do in the future. The Directive is aimed at creating a fair relationship in the digital market between creative, cultural and media industries, on the one hand, and large internet platforms, on the other. The latter should be responsible for the content that is shared, stored and displayed through them, and should start sharing part of the revenue they generate on that content with those who created it,” Prof. dr. sc. Romana Matanovac Vučković underlined.
