Amid the premiere of their first feature series on the greatest innovators of our time, the show titled “Genius”, National Geographic created an original spot which was aired on 5 February during the halftime of the largest US sports spectacle, the Super Bowl.
When it comes to trailers that are broadcasted and presented during the Super Bowl halftime break, they are always about world’s most famous blockbusters and TV premieres, but this untypical trailer presented to the viewers in the best possible way the new show of National Geographic, with the main actor in the role of Einstein!
In the video, the most famous physicist of all time, Albert Einstein, is playing Lady Gaga’s hit Bad Romance on a violin. The main role of the famous physicist in the series “Genius” was given to the Hollywood actor Geoffrey Rush, who won an Oscar for his role in “Shine”. Video announcement immediately aroused huge interest for the series, whose premiere in Croatia on National Geographic is expected in spring 2017.
This original announcement designed by the creative team of McCann New York became the most watched announcement in the history of National Geographic with 84 million viewers in the US, while around the world through social networks, website NG.com and partners it attracted an additional 15 million viewers and garnered 135 million impressions! In addition to excellent audience ratings, the creative team of National Geographic also hooked the Super Clio with this trailer, beating the fierce competition of the Super Bowl and commercials for Honda and Budweiser, which were widely lauded as the best. The trailer also won the title of the best Super Bowl ad in a survey conducted by The Wall Street Journal among their readers.
The series “Genius” is based on Einstein’s biography “Einstein: His Life and Universe”, written by American journalist and writer Walter Isaacson, while the production was given to a Oscar winning duo – Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. Each of the ten episodes will deal with one of Einstein’s incredible discoveries, and the series will be broadcast in 171 countries and in 45 languages worldwide.
