Clicks rule; it is becoming more and more annoying how people sit over a coffee and chat over a cell phone. Technology has brought about almost perfect conditions for communication, and yet communication between people is declining by the day! Probably never before in human history have changes in all aspects of life and work been as strong and fast as over the last couple of decades. The boundaries are slowly being erased and the importance of global relations is increasing, and that goes for the market as well.
The time race in all areas is becoming faster and tougher, which is why it’s important to know the trends. Roles are changing and collaboration is the key word, and collaboration is almost impossible without good communication. The population is ageing, life expectancy is extending, the role of communication is rising steeply and more and more people are involved in communication, so screen culture dominates, especially among younger people.
We live in a dynamic time in which modern technological solutions in the design and transmission of information result in the emergence of new communication paradigms. We can say that communication plays a key role in creating favorable and unfavorable impressions on both the individual and the company, as well as the work environment, products and services.
Regardless of the fantastic development of technology, including the Internet, face to face communication (interpersonal) cannot be replaced by any technology, so the meaning of interpersonal communication for the development of relationships remains dominant. Communication, interpersonal communication, is a basic human need, which allows man to interact with others and with the community as a whole. To communicate you don’t need words, knowledge of grammar and the like. People communicate even before they start talking, using sounds, movements and gestures. Communication is the process of sharing thoughts and their meanings through various verbal and non-verbal messages. The uniqueness of communication, meaning messaging between people as channels of communication (interpersonal communication), is observed in the complexity of individual messages and heterogeneity of perception through a set of senses, which can never be achieved through technological solutions (ie, the Internet).
Good interpersonal relationships, reputation, personal image … these are not the result of chance, but of knowing and applying certain elements of successful communication, especially in a business environment.
Because of all the above, the desire is to shed light on the key content of interpersonal communication in this manual and to be a guide for anyone who wants to effectively communicate with others and with the public.
The exceptional complexity of this problem prompted us to access it from the standpoint of best practices and, without ambition, to open up the theoretical dilemmas that are out there. The desire is to help those for whom this matter is not easily accessible, or for whom the skill itself is not so central to their professional orientation.
The aim of this book-manual is based on the ambition to make readers better understand the multidisciplinary nature and complexity of communication, in the first place interpersonal, in the new economy of the digital age and the complexity of the dialogue between individuals and society.
