Felix Baumgartner, one of the bravest men today, is coming to the 28th SOF to share fantastic impressions from his incredible feats, including the Red Bull Stratos stunt in which he broke the sound barrier and set a world record in free fall. There are only few opportunities for “ordinary” mortals to find themselves face to face with people like Felix. Now SOF has enabled this opportunity to all participants who wish to sharpen their creative edge on 11 and 12 of April at the Slovenian Advertising Festival in Portoroz.
Felix Baumgartner was born in 1969 in Salzburg. At age 16 he started skydiving. He honed his skills as part of the demonstration and competition team of the Austrian military. In 1988 he began performing at Red Bull’s B.A.S.E. events. The combination of Red Bull’s out of the box thinking and Felix’s adventurous spirit proved to be a winning one because they are still successfully collaborating today.
In the 1990s Felix felt that he had achieved all there was to achieve in traditional skydiving, and decided to expand his skills in BASE jumps. He realized that quick reflexes and precision technique, which are a must in low-height stunts, improve his technique of parachuting jumps from great heights.
Felix has broken world records in BASE jumps. He was nominated for the World Sports Award and in two categories of NEA Extreme Sports Awards. He is a great advocate for the NGO Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation. As he admitted, the Red Bull Stratos mission was a leap into the unknown, but he was determined to reach the edge of space and break the sound barrier. Prior to the jump, he said: “If Red Bull Stratos is successful, we will get the data we currently don’t have. I would be very proud if I make this possible.”
Felix achieved his ultimate goal and started a world tour to share his enthusiasm over the record free fall at the speed of sound.
