EXCELLENT RESPONSE TO THIS YEAR’S EFFIE CROATIA, AS NUMBER OF ENTRIES GROWS BY 40%
Entries for this year’s Effie Croatia competition are officially closed. The competition is part of the festival Days of Communication, which will be held from 30 March to 2 April 2 in Rovinj, and this year a total of 51 projects will compete for the award for outstanding and effective marketing campaigns, which represents a 40% year over year increase. The largest number of entries came from financial and insurance services.
“Increasing number of entries compared to last year is a confirmation that the effectiveness and measurable business and communication goals are increasingly important aspects of the development and implementation of marketing campaigns on the Croatian market, both for agencies and advertisers. Of course, we also see this increase in the number of applications as a confirmation that the award is recognized as an important professional recognition. Given the high level of strategic thinking and careful disposal of investments in entered projects, decision on the winners will be an exciting challenge for the whole jury,” said Darko Ivančević, President of Effie Croatia jury and global VP of brand Staropramen within the MolsonCoors Group.
Winners of individual categories, and the winner of the Grand Prix Effie, will be announced at the festival Days of Communication in Rovinj. All information about the Effie competition are available on the official website of the competition at www.effie.hr, and currently entries are still open for the professional competitions IdejaX, Mixx and Young Lions. GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD 2016: THE MOST CORRECT MAP OF THE WORLD WHICH SOLVED A PROBLEM THAT PLAGUED SCIENTISTS FOR DECADES
Japanese architect Hajime Nakurawa claims to have solved the problem that has plagued scientists for decades – how to accurately draw a world map on a flat piece of paper. According to him, he was able to make the AuthaGraph World Map, which successfully solved this task.
He made his first projections in 1999, when he showed the world in 2D technology, and he did so in order to more accurately display the relative sizes and relationships between continents, N1 reports.
When this display was turned into 3D, the ratios proved to be a lot different from those of classic globes from the 16th century in which the parts of the world, such as Greenland, are represented much larger in relation to their actual size.
This world map won the Good Design Grand Award 2016 in Japan.
IBM WORKING ON A COMPUTER THAT WILL BE SEVERAL MILLION TIMES FASTER THAN TODAY’S PCS
IBM has made the first step towards developing and selling quantum computers that will be millions of times faster than today’s PCs.
For this reason, the company has launched a new division in the company, which they named IBM Q, which will be in charge to commercialize the product and make it available to broad masses.
IBM believes that they’ve made enough progress with their development, and that programmers can already begin developing software for these computers, writes The Independent.
Although many scientists believe that we will have to wait for these computers for years, company executives are extremely optimistic about the future of quantum computers given the current progress in this field, and believe that the first computer can be expected soon.

Nike has for the first time turned its attention to the Islamic clothing market after creating a sports hijab designed for female athletes.

TINDER’S SECRET MEMBERS-ONLY APP FOR CELEBRITIES, SUPERMODELS AND CEOS OUTED
A secretive members-only app for ‘elite’ Tinder users including CEOs, supermodels, celebrities and the highest ranked users of the regular app has been revealed.
Tinder Select has been devised to cater for the rarified upper echelons of the dating game but exists strictly off grid for mere ordinary mortals, with access obtainable by invitation only.
To gain admittance Tinder is believed to be making use of an algorithmic rating system to identify the most beautiful and well-heeled users, some of whom can nominate others to join.
Tinder has refused to comment publicly on the app, perhaps mindful of irritating the vast majority of its customers, but it is believed to have been operating for the past six months at least.
