Mercator has a long tradition of supporting sports, and athletes are once again the stars of their corporate campaign – Ours. The Best. The campaign started last year at the time of the Ljubljana Marathon, and its peak comes now, in the winter season, and at the time of the Winter Olympics. Energy for an active lifestyle associated with Mercator’s offer will be presented by some of the best Slovenian athletes. Promotion of healthy lifestyle fueled by fruits and vegetables as well as Špela Rogelj, Jernej Damjan and Robert Kranjec, in February focuses on supporting the ski jumping team and local jumping clubs.
Two years ago, when Mercator and Slovenian ski jumpers for the first time “leaped” into the winter season, support of citizens was exceptional, and they sent more than 600,000 votes, participating in Mercator’s donation to the national team and local jumping clubs. Of course, this was encouraged by the extraordinary successes of the Slovenian eagles, but still everyone is aware that every good jump takes long and hard training, that every representative selection requires years of investment in jumping, and that the real support for athletes is demonstrated even when there are no outstanding results. Therefore, by buying domestic products in Mercator last season, buyers made a massive contribution to empowering young skiers in jumping clubs across Slovenia.
Ski jumpers never fail in providing thrills and inspiration by their fearlessness and they are an example for all through their optimism and perseverance. These are the very reasons why they have so many supporters, even though their sport is not as massive as some others. And who is more likely to encourage people to a more balanced diet and an active lifestyle than the “light” athletes who soar in the air, defying the winds and gravity? Mercator has merged these beliefs with the fact that enjoying fruits and vegetables is particularly important in the winter, and for this reason, one tenth of the total offer on Mercator’s shelves is made up of fruits and vegetables.
Campaign Respect Nature, Eat Smart will develop into support for Slovenian eagles in which everyone will be able to participate, because this February, with every purchase of fruit and vegetables in excess of €1 in Mercator, buyers will receive a code on their receipt. By entering the code and selecting a ski jumping club on a dedicated website, buyers will vote for their favorite club. Higher value purchases bring codes with multiple votes: for example, a three-euro purchase allows the customer to place three votes for the club of their choosing. Mercator will allocate the total prize fund from the campaign to the national jumping team and the jumping clubs that get the most votes. All this to support the youngest to grow, and the victories of those who are already the best!
