Singaporeans experienced a rude shock when local social media influencers Youtiao666, vandalised an SGmobile advertisement at Bugis MRT station, even filming it for an Instagram story.
This turned out to just be a publicity stunt pulled local mobile virtual network operator Circles.Life to promote its S$20 for 20GB data plan.
The brand stamped the veracity of the vandalism, by sending clips of the vandals to media outlets such as Vulcan Post, Stomp and The Independent. The fictional telco SGMobile also released a statement on Sunday acknowledging the vandalism and vowing to take action, further pushing the realism fader up.
SGMobile’s site and social media presence has been updated to inform of Circles.Life’s publicity stunt, while outdoor advertising has been updated to the $20 for 20GB campaign.
