Danish footwear company Bianco has stirred quite a mess on social networks with their spin on the equal pay debate, claiming “equal pay is not enough” because women need more money to buy shoes and “ridiculously more expensive underwear.”
According to the brand, their intent was to spark a discourse about the issue of gender inequality, which they most certainly did, but it’s hard not to raise your eyebrow when a shoe company sends a message that women need more money to pay for more expensive shoes.(!?)
For what it’s worth, their ad is making rounds on Facebook, where it already generated almost two million views, although comments on it are less than flattering for the company, with one user commenting: “A lot of women are angry about it, but funnily enough not because we want to buy more shoes. Isn’t it great when capitalism attempts to cash in on feminism? What a load of bullshit.”
They say that if you don’t have anything nice to say, then say nothing at all. Well, the only good thing I can say about the spot is that film craft was nice. What do you think?
