Varaždin MOP festival takes place 23 to 28 of May 2016, organized by the Student Association MOP and the Tourist Board of Varaždin, and sponsored by the University Sjever.
Organizers of the festival this year for the first time joined forces and presented the new look of this already recognizable annual regional festival of multimedia and digital culture. Adding it another name – that of the currently most famous Varaždin festival, Špancir – they are jointly working on the development of cultural and creative visibility of the Croatian northwest, and are bringing to this baroque city a series of lectures and workshops, as well as programs of electronic music and interactive 3D mapping. MOP Association will also be included as a partner in the organization of Špancirfest, and will thus ease the transition of Špancirfest from a one-month event into a year-round festival.
The focus of MOP Špancir festival is education in the field of digital culture and multimedia, and it brings together students and educators, designers and artists, musicians and other creative for whom digital media are an indispensable tool in everyday life.
In six days, at various locations in the historic center of Varaždin, in attractive exhibition, commercial and hospitality venues, as well as in various unused enclosed and public spaces of the city, there will be thirteen lectures, seven workshops, four exhibitions and a rich music program, while the city streets will become the scenes of numerous interactive audio-visual installations.
“The fifth edition of the Varaždin festival of digital culture brings a quality program in all its aspects, with an emphasis this year on the exchange of knowledge and creative use of new technologies in art, science and design. We are looking forward to high quality lectures and workshops that will be held by people from the industry, with vast experience in interactive media areas. For the first time in this Festival, we have prepared lectures for children and young primary and secondary school age students,” said Fran Mubrin, director of MOP Špancir festival.
Among other things, at the Festival you can hear lectures from representatives of leading Croatian digital and design agencies: 404, Degordian, UX Passion, SDDS, Five, colleagues from Germany (welance.com), learn about the crowdworking projects in Croatia and abroad (Fatsell and Matija Raos), the music start-ups (nuArs), and enjoy a rich music program and much more.
