On the occasion of the World Day of Children, a new director led Mediana Institute for one day. At the UNICEF initiative, children took over lead positions in politics, media, education, sport, culture and the economy.
The seat of Mediana’s director, Janja Božič Marolt, was thus taken by 14-year-old Aleš Gerjevič.
In his role as Director, Aleš first got informed about the company’s activities and talked to the employees. He then suggested possible improvements in companies from the standpoint of children. He believes employees should have enough time for themselves and for their families, that is working hours flexible enough not to limit family life. Mediana proudly underlined that such and similar ideas they already realize in practice. Every day they try to be a company that is successfully adapting to family life. Apart from adjusting the working hours that allow its employees to take their children to school and home from school, every year they organize visits of Santa Clause, and together mark the beginning of the school year when all the children of the staff go to the fun events and socializing. The beginning of this school year was welcomed in Ljubljana. Mediana organizes team building every year for its staff, because they want to nurture friendly and close relationships within the company.
After the end of the working day in Mediana Institute, around 12:00hrs, still in the role of Director, Aleš held a press conference in the Presidential Palace where he presented key findings on Mediana’s research conducted in cooperation with UNICEF Slovenia. The survey measured the satisfaction of children living and growing up in Slovenia. The results are very interesting. 800 primary school pupils aged 7 to 15 from all over Slovenia participated in the research. It is clear from the research that family relationships most affect the mood and satisfaction of children (32% of respondents). This information is also important for companies. They must be aware that it is important to allow their parents to spend their free time with children. Namely, three-quarters of children in Slovenia (72%) are most likely to turn to their parents for help in case of any problems, and therefore parents need time to support their children.
