The small fishing village of Ísafjörður on Iceland has a new pedestrian crossing. Nothing news worthy, until you realize that it was made to look 3D, making a very cleverly designed optical illusion. This innovative design not only entertains pedestrians who have a sense of walking in the air, but also attracts the attention of the driver who will definitely slow down after seeing the seemingly hovering “zebra”.
Icelandic environmental commissioner Ralf Trylla decided to paint the crossing in this way in Ísfjörður after seeing a similar project in New Delhi, India. For the realization of this praise worthy project, he hired a local company Vegmálun GÍH which turned his wish into reality.
Below you can see the fascinating image of the road caught by photographer Ágúst G. Atlas from the Gústi Productions. Let us know if you would like to see a pedestrian crossing like this in your city in the Facebook comments on our post.
