At Tuesday’s conference for developers, Facebook has introduced new tools and features that will be available as of today on mobile devices around the world. From augmented reality, chat bots to advanced Messenger options, Zuckerberg has presented a vision in which direction digital communications will develop in 2017, and the spotlight was on messaging apps.
Messenger becomes the main point of interaction
The era of redirecting users from Facebook to your website is over. With new capabilities of the Messenger app, Facebook will make sure that the user gets everything they need, without having to leave the Messenger interface. From now on, users will be able to search and listen to songs from Spotify together, within a group chat, and if they are trying to agree on what to order for lunch, through a group message they will be able to review the menu, order and pay, every man for himself, and eventually even rate the service of the restaurant without having to leave Messenger. If they still want to go, physically, to the restaurant, they will be able to book their place in the app. All presented features are the result of Facebook’s study which found that users prefer to communicate with companies and brands via Messenger, rather than receiving calls and e-mails. Work will be made easier for companies and brands with the Smart Replies feature, where chat bots will pull relevant information from the site and automatically respond to the questions of fans. For gamers, a novelty is the possibility of real time playing all the available games online with friends via the Games tab, integrated into the app.
One camera – one social network – all the possibilities
Zuckerberg stressed the growing importance of camera in the user interaction in social networks and invited developers to join in the creation of filters and effects for augmented reality. Although these features were “borrowed” from Snapchat, Zuckerberg wants to raise everything to the next level, and with a flick of a finger provide the users with the most relevant filters and effects for their location and demographics, with the aim that users are able to find everything that is important to them in a single social network – Facebook. Developers and brands will be able to create custom effects via the new Facebook platform AR Studio. During the conference, they also launched the Facebook Spaces app which is in beta. With it, users can socialize in virtual reality, create their own special digital avatar using the profile photo and draw with virtual markers, watch 360 videos and invite other friends through Messenger.
Through numerous “borrowed” features, Facebook at this conference once again confirmed that they want to be “everything for everyone”. Aware that users don’t like to switch between dozens of interfaces to find information and options they need, Facebook offers them everything in one place, and thus ensures its dominance among social networks.
If you were thinking of investing in new web in 2017, and then use Facebook to attract visits, think again. Although the web site is the mirror of your company, Facebook Messenger is its sound.
Do you want to invest in being beautiful, or being heard?
