A unique replica of the Great Onofrio Fountain – one of the most famous symbols of Dubrovnik – made from empty Coca-Cola bottles, has been installed in Oružja Square within the city walls of Dubrovnik. The replica is designed as a unique template for artistic expression and for the promotion of the beauty of the city, and from 20 July to 15 August all who are interested will be able to illustrate empty Coca-Cola bottles with Dubrovnik motifs, which will then become part of the replica.
“We are happy to be part of this project that promotes local culture and rich heritage. In fact, the Onofrio Fountain, Dubrovnik’s most famous fountain and one of the most beautiful symbols of Dubrovnik, was our inspiration for the idea. We chose it for symbolic reasons, because the Onofrio Fountain has historically had a role similar to Coca-Cola – to refresh,” said Jakša Maganić, regional sales manager of Coca-Cola for Croatia.
The production and installation of the replica of the Onofrio Fountain occurred after the successful launch of a special stylized aluminum bottle depicting motifs of the City of Dubrovnik. The company wanted to encourage local arts and culture in this way, thereby connecting the two brands – Coca-Cola as the world’s most famous beverage brand, and Dubrovnik as the most internationally recognized symbol of Croatia.
“We are honored that Coca-Cola Croatia has again recognized our city and decided to offer the people and visitors of Dubrovnik interesting content, and to be part of this unique project. I believe that this installation will attract great interest and the involvement of all who are interested, and considering the fact that Dubrovnik is one of the most historic Croatian tourist destinations, with a rich cultural heritage, we eagerly await the creative works and the motifs of our beautiful city,” said Andro Vlahušić, mayor of the City of Dubrovnik.
One of the partners of this project is Gaella Gottwald, Expert Associate to the City of Dubrovnik, a renowned artist and painter who works in the Lazareti complex, who also invited everyone, especially artists and artistic organizations, to respond in large numbers.
“By using this unique template, citizens and artists of Dubrovnik can show us their vision of the city in an innovative way, and unveil the symbols of the City that they think should have a place on the replica of the Onofrio Fountain. It will also be a meeting place of various means of creative expression and techniques, and will include, as far as possible, all the beauty and magnificence of the City, so I invite all creatives not to miss this opportunity and to participate in this form of artistic expression,” said Gottwald.
The empty bottles of Coca-Cola can be painted in the Lazareti complex, at Lađa 1, every working day from 10:00 to 14:00. The bottles on the replica will be changed once a day, when the current bottles will be replaced with painted ones. After the painting of the bottles is completed, a jury of experts will select the ten most beautiful motifs, among which they will choose the winning work, which will adorn the label of a special Coca-Cola edition in 2017.
