The D&AD Next Awards aims to find the next big names in film and photography and promote them back to the industry, through mentoring introductions to established industry figures. This year, Next Photographer will once again be held in partnership with Getty Images and will offer the winner a $5000 prize grant amongst other opportunities.
Commenting on the continuing partnership, Andy Saunders, Senior Vice President, Creative Content at Getty Images said “We’re delighted to be partnering with D&AD as the Next Photographer Award enters its third year. It is a unique award with a great breadth of entries, and we’ve unearthed some truly remarkable talent.
We’re pleased to see how it continues to evolve, enabling us to support more emerging photographers from across the globe and celebrate the level of craft and originality that goes into creating their imagery.”
Last year’s Next Director Award winner was BAFTA-winning Daisy Jacobs with her short animated film ‘The Bigger Picture.’ A British animation director, she uses stop-motion and painted animation to create her life-size characters.
Next Photographer (in partnership with Getty Images) was won by Tam Hoi Ying, a Hong Kong-Chinese photographer. Interested in visual storytelling, she uses photos to raise awareness of the human rights situation in China.
Winners take home a coveted D&AD Next Awards Pencil and they and all shortlisted entrants will earn a place in the D&AD Annual 2017.
