The portal Jutarnji.hr was launched in December 2005. In the 10 years since then, editors have changed, features have been added and the user base has grown, and today, according to DotMetrics Audience research, Jutarnji.hr is the most visited portal in Croatia. But the design has only changed once, in 2009. Now, after seven long years, on the 18th anniversary of Jutarnji List, the portal has entered the final phase of a new redesign.
Learning from its own mistakes and the mistakes of the competition, it was decided that the redesign would be made in a different way from any seen in Croatia so far. Specifically, in order to avoid the technical difficulties that occur during the launch of websites, and in order to enable users to get gradually accustomed to the new look of the portal, during this period of transformation into a faster, more interesting and more modern portal, users will be able to follow Jutarnji.hr in two editions: the existing design on Jutarnji.hr, and the new one at novi.Jutarnji.hr.
Because of the desire to make the portal more user friendly, adjusted to users’ needs and habits, novi.Jutarnji.hr has an embedded system for analysis and metrics that will help a team of digital experts from Europapress Holding to understand how users use Jutarnji.hr, and which features interest them. In order to avoid predictions of what users might want, and then impose those predictions on them, users are invited to make their proposals and express their opinions through a survey, which is displayed on the portal. The fact that users are involved in the further development of the portal is not a common practice, but it certainly contributes to satisfaction with the final product, which can already be inferred from the survey results, which are almost exclusively positive.
The new portal is already fully functional, but its development has not been completed, and new content will still be added until the final transition to the new design on 6 May, when the portal will be available only at www.jutarnji.hr.
