New agency, old restlessness: Nikola Žinić launches 5068.agency

After three decades in which he, together with Davor Bruketa, built one of the region’s most recognizable creative stories, Nikola Žinić is once again opening a new door. On it, it says 5068.agency.

There are people whose signature is not found only on campaigns, award books or business cards. It remains in the way an entire industry begins to see itself.

Nikola Žinić belongs to that rare group. Since 1995, when he founded Bruketa&Žinić with Davor Bruketa, and until his departure from the agency after three decades, Žinić was among the people who persistently pushed the regional creative industry beyond its comfort zones. From Zagreb, they created campaigns, identities, products and experiences that traveled far beyond the markets in which they were born.

The numbers will say that over the years, the agency won more than 650 awards for advertising and design, including 34 Effies. They will also say that it ranked second on the global Effie Effectiveness Index among independent agencies, that it became part of the Grey and WPP system, and that Žinić served on the juries of Euro Effie, Golden Drum and Global Best of the Best Effie. All of that is true.

But numbers rarely describe the reason why some names remain important.

Žinić’s work has always carried the kind of restlessness that refuses to accept a familiar solution just because it is safe. That restlessness now has a new address: 5068.agency.

The agency is being launched at a moment when the creative industry is once again rearranging itself. Artificial intelligence is entering business, technology is changing the path to the customer, and old working models are increasingly struggling to keep up with the speed of change. Brands no longer meet their audiences only in an ad, on a shelf or on a website. They also meet them in the answers given by artificial intelligence systems, in the recommendations arranged by algorithms before the user even gets to ask a second question.

Before, it mattered what a brand said. Now, it is also becoming important what a machine can conclude about it.

This is where the space for 5068.agency begins.

The agency’s claim, “Bringing brands to their next version”, sounds simple, but behind it stands a serious task. To help brands remain clear while habits, channels, technologies and expectations change around them. To make sure people recognize them, understand them and want them. And to make sure they are understood just as well by the systems that will increasingly decide what to show, recommend or leave out.

“Our industry is entering a new phase in which brands no longer build relationships only with people. Artificial intelligence is becoming the new intermediary between the brand and the user, and our task is to help companies become equally understandable, relevant and recognizable to both audiences, people and machines,” says Nikola Žinić.

5068.agency will not build a classic agency pyramid, with predetermined floors, departments and a long path from idea to decision. For each project, it will assemble a team according to the real problem that needs to be solved. Sometimes, the table will need a strategist, a designer and a creative director. Sometimes, they will need to be joined by someone who understands data, technology, business models or human behavior in a world that changes almost overnight.

It is a working model that feels more like a well-assembled band than an office organigram. The right people, the right instruments, the right song for the right moment.

And the first clients show that this moment has already arrived. A1 Austria Group, Marodi, Bačelić, Špeceraj and SOS Dječje selo are on the list of an agency that has only just opened its doors. For a beginning, it is not a list one reads as a footnote.

After three decades of work, one might expect a new professional step to be cautious, measured and entirely predictable. 5068.agency is taking a different path. It carries experience that does not need to prove its own weight to anyone, but also enough curiosity to step into uncertainty once again.

And that may be the most interesting part of this story.

In an industry that constantly swears by change, it is rare to see someone who does not observe it from a distance, but decides to enter it again. Nikola Žinić is now doing exactly that, with a new name on the door, a new working model and the same feeling that the best creative solutions are yet to happen.
