American media company Social Media Examiner commissioned a first study of its kind Creator Monetization Report 2017 involving many podcasters, bloggers and video creators. The study examined how the podcasters, bloggers and video creators make money.
Michael Stelzner, Social Media Examiner’s founder, helped produce the study of more than 4300 creators. For many of the creators studied (28%) the blog posts, podcasts and videos they create don’t make money, however for the 29% of creators it is their main revenue.
For half of the creators advertising is the way they make money, followed by bloggers and video creators selling their own products (46%) and services (42%).
Most of the creators said that they earn more money than a year ago, 37% of creators had no change in their income while 13% are earning less. Most of them (62%) are not happy with their earnings.
