After first few days of November, merchants put away all the leftover flowers and bags of soil,the warehouses are then used to supply Christmas decorations. Two months before Christmas all the shopping centers play traditional Christmas tunes and adverts encourage us to buy Christmas presents.
42% of Slovenians think that festive decorations are out too soon in shopping centres and city streets, 37% think that it is bit too early. Only 17% love the festive atmosphere and don’t mind the early start of the festive season. We are all looking for presents for our dearest ones in the pre Christmas period.
Only 11% said that they will not spend any money, the same percentage will spend less than 20 Euros. Most of Slovenians (28%) will spend between 50 and 100 Euros and more than fifth (22%) will spend 100 euros or more. For most of them (59%) it is the same amount of money they spent last year, only 7% will spend more this year, almost a fifth (19%) will spend less this year.
Christmas in Slovenia is clearly traditional family occasion and 86% of Slovenians will spend the holidays at home. 11% will visit friends and family and only 3% will travel in Slovenia or abroad. 70% of the polled will celebrate the New Year at home and 10% will be outdoors or with friends and family.
The Slovenian study was carried out by Mediana Institute for Market and Media Research at the beginning of December. Five hundred and one of 18+ Slovenians took part in the study. It is the Slovenian representative sample.
