Beats by Dre has made its most decisive move yet into the creator economy with a martial arts–inspired short film starring YouTube streamer IShowSpeed, marking a clear shift in how the brand approaches cultural relevance. The brand, owned by Apple, has historically built its global campaigns around elite athletes such as LeBron James, Shohei Ohtani and Lionel Messi. This project represents the first time the brand has anchored a major, high-production film around a digital creator rather than a traditional sports icon.

“For years, Beats has collaborated with some of the biggest names in sports and music, but the creator space is where culture is heading, and we knew we needed to evolve with it,” said Chris Thorne, chief marketing officer at Beats. “Our brand has always been a pulse point for youth culture, and that means showing up where this generation lives. IShowSpeed embodies that intersection—he’s an entertainer, an athlete, a rising musician and a global force with Gen Z.”

Created by agency MIRIMAR, The Master of Speed & Stability places IShowSpeed at the centre of a deliberately stylised, tongue-in-cheek homage to 1970s martial arts cinema. The five-minute film follows the streamer on an exaggerated training journey through a hyper-saturated world of brutal drills, eccentric masters and retro kung fu aesthetics, designed to underline the stability and performance credentials of the Powerbeats 2 earbuds.

The film is directed by Daniel Wolfe of Love Song, and features choreography from Paco Yick, a former member of the Jackie Chan Stunt Team. Shot on Super 16mm, the production leans fully into its retro influences, incorporating hand-painted title cards, practical effects and period-accurate transitions to recreate the look and pacing of classic kung fu films.

“This was one of those projects where everyone involved knew we had an opportunity to do something very special,” said John McKelvey, co-founder and chief creative officer of Mirimar. “Doing a world premiere on Speed’s livestream to his 86 million followers is an innovation that makes this a cultural moment, bigger than an ad.”

The narrative follows IShowSpeed as he travels to China to undergo kung fu training at the Shaolin Temple, drawing directly on a real-life trip he made earlier this year that was closely followed by his online audience. His trademark, unpredictable energy propels the action, with the earbuds subjected to sprints, acrobatic flips and fight choreography intended to demonstrate whether they remain securely in place under intense physical movement. The film debuted on Friday afternoon, premiering live during one of IShowSpeed’s livestreams, aligning the launch with the creator’s core distribution channel and audience.

Beats by Dre has positioned the film as a long-term strategic starting point rather than a standalone experiment, indicating plans to further broaden its talent roster beyond traditional celebrity and athlete partnerships.
