You’ll remember that we recently published an article about Google’s G logo, and how imperfections are sometimes what makes a design just perfect.
Well here’s another example, courtesy of Fast Company, that further reinforces this fact. The logo we present to you today is the Starbuck’s mermaid, take a look below and try to find the imperfection that makes perfect (it’s not really hard to find it).
Although studies show that people are more attracted to symmetrical features in the opposite sex, which in a way means that symmetry is a cornerstone of the ideal of human beauty, it’s the imperfections that make things more humane.
And this is especially important when designing logos with faces, as the symmetry in that case can cause the feeling of coldness and alienation, which is certainly something you want to avoid when it comes to branding.
Check out the article on FastCompany website, which brings a far more detailed analysis of this case, and how designers actually ended up with using this exact design.
