Earlier this year Gillette launched a highly controversial ad that tackled toxic masculinity, getting in response equal amount of praise and criticism, but now Gillette is doubling down on its mission with the #MyBestSelf campaign.
After the first ad, Gillette noted they are the “world’s largest marketer to men”, and as such they have the right and a responsibility to champion gender rights. Now they are taking it a step further with a groundbreaking campaign that places trans people in the focus.
Having in mind that one of the most important moments in a young man’s life is his first shaving, and to demonstrate that ‘The Best a Man Can Get’ includes all men, Gillette has released a short film titled ‘First Shave’ which stars Samson, a real transgender teen, who is being taught how to shave for the first time by his father.
The onscreen text at the end of the film reads ‘whenever, however it happens – your first shave is special.’
The film has been met with a positive response on social media, with many lauding the shaving brand for addressing a subject that resonates so much with the trans community.
