Depop, a social shopping platform used mainly for secondhand items, has launched a fresh brand campaign that redefines secondhand shopping, focusing on the emotional connection that sparks when someone instantly understands and resonates with your personal style.
Secondhand fashion carries a story of its own, each item bearing traces of its past while opening the door to a new life in someone else’s wardrobe. Depop is spotlighting that unique value in its new campaign, Where Taste Recognizes Taste, which celebrates the unexpected connection between “style twins” from different walks of life.
To bring the idea to life, Depop released a surreal spot that visualizes the moment of validation when one person buys a listed item. In the ad, a sweater begins to unravel and physically pulls its original owner toward the buyer, symbolizing how shared taste can create an instant bond across the platform.

Created in partnership with Uncommon Creative Studio, the campaign explores the quiet thrill of being seen. At its core is the concept of the “Depopelganger”: two people who may live in completely different worlds, yet find themselves connected through a shared sense of style. By framing secondhand shopping as more than just a transaction, the campaign positions Depop as a space where fashion becomes a bridge between identities and communities.
“Early into concepting, we came across a social post where someone who sold a sweater on Depop saw the person she sold it to, five years later at a bar in Manhattan,” said Kelley Barrett, creative director at Uncommon. “The comments were all like, ‘OMG this is fate, what are the odds, this happened for a reason.’”
Supporting the spot is a full-scale media rollout including out-of-home, streaming radio (Spotify, SiriusXM), connected TV (Disney, Amazon, Roku, Netflix, YouTube TV) and paid social across TikTok, Meta and Pinterest.
