Once, not necessarily so long ago, when we used to talk about the stars, we would usually mention a successful actor, singer, director, model. Today, some new generations know some quite different stars – youtubers that create content on YouTube and attract the masses to regularly follow and adore them. One of them is certainly the 25-year-old KSI, the most popular British youtuber, and one of the world’s most popular youtubers, who will be coming to Zagreb on October 21.
His real name is Olajide William Olatunji, who comes from London where he grew up with his parents and brother Dejij who is also a youtuber. He started making YouTube videos in 2008. A year later, he opened a channel which today has almost 20 million followers.
In the beginning he recorded how to play various games, which made him famous, and then he switched to music in 2011. The first song he recorded was ‘Heskey Time‘, dedicated to football player Emile Heskey and all his misses. After that, he released several more songs, but what made him one of the top stars are amateur boxing matches, in which he literally fights other youtubers whom he challenges. Some even went so far and said he was a better box promoter than some professional boxers.
YouTube success brought him not only fame, but also huge profits, but his parents, who fully support him today, were not quite happy with his career choice at the beginning. KSI once said he did not want to go to school because he was already making thousands on YouTube as a high schooler, and thought he doesn’t need school. His parents were, of course, furious when they heard that he had decided to drop out of school. “They told me that this was the most stupid thing I could have done, and that I’m going to destroy my life. Today they’ve completely changed. They even record with me and my brother and fully understand what I’m doing,” he told Telegraph.
Although he loves expensive cars, good sneakers and extravagant houses, he doesn’t spend money only on himself. He is aware that wealth is transient, which is why he is always trying to invest money in what is worth. In 2016, for example, he gave money to a community-based youth fund, and often donates money to cancer-fighting associations. He also paid off the house his parents currently live in, and they are immensely grateful for this, and because they, after all, let him follow his dreams. He is the perfect proof that fame doesn’t necessarily have to corrupt people, but that something noble and smart can come out of it as well.
And the best part is that KSI is coming to Zagreb this year, to the biggest regional YouTube spectacle, Total JoomBoos, that will be held on October 21 at Arena Zagreb. There he will join the local and regional youtubers whom JoomBoos has also invited to participate in this huge show. He will answer some interesting questions, tell his story about what encouraged him to start doing YouTube, and what he thinks about Zagreb. Everyone who wants to get to know this world’s biggest YouTube star can purchase their tickets for Total JoomBoos through Entrio and at their sales places for a price of HRK 99.
