Apple celebrates the chaos that comes before great ideas in new Mac campaign

The new Mac campaign focuses on the frustration, uncertainty, and endless document versions students go through before an idea finally starts to work.

While tech brands have spent years portraying creativity as a moment of pure inspiration, Apple takes an almost opposite approach in its new global Mac campaign. Instead of a perfectly organized process and glamorous “eureka” moments, the Great Ideas Start Here campaign presents creative work as a sequence of mistakes, abandoned drafts, deleted files, last-minute edits, and sleepless nights spent in front of a screen.

The latest phase of the platform focuses on students and young people entering creative and technical professions, while the campaign attempts to show that ideas today rarely emerge in a clean or linear way. On the contrary, the creative process increasingly looks like constant revising, restarting, and trying again.

The hero film, created by TBWA\Media Arts Lab and directing duo rubberband. from production company Smuggler, follows students from different parts of the world as they delete presentations, rename endless project versions, and struggle to finish assignments under pressure and exhaustion. Rather than functioning as a traditional tech product showcase, the campaign focuses almost entirely on the emotional and psychological side of creativity.

Visually and through its editing rhythm, the campaign accurately recreates an atmosphere generations of students and young creatives already know well: late-night work sessions, the feeling that nothing is ever good enough, constantly starting over, and the moment when the solution often appears only seconds before giving up.

The soundtrack features Willow Kayne’s song I’VE GOT THIS ALL UNDER CONTROL, whose ironic title further reinforces the campaign’s central idea – that the creative process usually feels completely out of control.

Although the campaign promotes the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, the hardware itself is not the main focus. Instead of relying on specifications and technical features, Apple is trying to build an emotional connection with an audience that no longer sees creativity as talent alone, but as a process shaped by uncertainty, pressure, and improvisation.

Only through a series of additional short films does the company highlight specific product features such as AI performance, extended battery life, and iPhone Mirroring, which allows seamless interaction between iPhone and Mac devices. Even there, the emphasis remains on how technology supports creative work rather than on the technology itself.

The new phase continues the Great Ideas Start Here platform that Apple introduced last year with a film narrated by Jane Goodall. While the previous version of the platform had a broader and more philosophical tone about the potential of ideas, the latest campaign feels far more specific and generation-focused.

At the same time, the campaign reflects a broader shift in how technology brands communicate productivity and creativity today. Instead of idealized visions of success, they increasingly attempt to show stress, imperfection, and mental pressure as essential parts of modern work. Especially at a moment when AI tools and hyper-productivity culture continue raising expectations placed on young creatives, engineers, and students.

The campaign will run across television, YouTube, social media, and digital platforms in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
