TEDXMOKRIN: GLOBAL VILLAGE IS BEING BORN IN VOJVODINA

TEDx is the world’s most recognizable conference format and a couple of TEDx events has been held so far in the largest cities in the region, such as Belgrade, Zagreb and Sarajevo. The next Saturday (September 16th), this conference will be held in an unexpected place – Mokrin. TEDxMokrin represents the first time in the region that this conference is held outside of urban centers, more precisely, in a small village in Vojvodina. The theme of the conference itself is Global Village. Through 10 lectures, positive examples will be shown of people who managed to achieve an impressive influence or success from rural areas.

Every year in Serbia, about 40,000 more people die or leave the country than is born or comes there to settle down. In Vojvodina, that number is 12,000. Therefore, every year, one small town, the size of Foča or Bačka Palanka, disappears. About 40% of the population of Serbia lives in villages, and out of 4,700 villages, 1,200 are considered to be in the phase of disappearance.

“The Internet is gradually democratizing the labor market and work space. Today, it’s possible to work on world-relevant things from anywhere in the world, as long as you’re online. And as inequality decreases among countries, thus reduces inequality between urban and rural environments. The idea of TEDxMokrin is to show stories and ideas that managed to break through or in spite of, or because they started in rural areas,” said TEDx organizer, Ivan Brkljač.

More information on TEDxMokrin can be found on the official TEDx website, and the conference itself starts at 10.00 in Mokrin House, Serbia’s first rural coliving space.

AIRBNB NAMES WIEDEN+KENNEDY AS ITS GLOBAL AGENCY OF RECORD

Airbnb has made Wieden+Kennedy its global agency of record which will see it lead the company’s roster of community agencies.

The account was won following a competitive pitch with DDB, and sees the Portland-based agency replace TBWA\ChiatDay LA, which was not involved in the process.

Jonathan Mildenhall, global CMO for Airbnb, confirmed the appointment, and described the contest as one of the closest he had been involved in. “Both Wieden+Kennedy and DDB developed outstanding thinking but W+K’s creative work has shown us a very compelling community voice that we know will take our creative output on to the next level.”

APPLE UNVEILS IPHONE X, 8 AND 8 PLUS

This Tuesday, in front of the packed Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, Apple unveiled their new iPhone 8 and 8 Plus devices, as well as the highly awaited iPhone X.

The new 8 and 8 Plus devices mainly bring some cosmetic changes and improvements to certain features of the device. It’s worth noting that devices will now have the capability of wireless charging, and come with improved chipsets, cameras and speakers.

However, the real change comes with the iPhone X, which lost its home button and the “chin” that housed it, so now the front of the device is almost completely covered by the new Super Retina OLED screen, with only a small cutout on the top part of the screen for camera and the sensors.
