VR EXHIBITION “EXPERIENCE TESLA” COMING TO THE WMF
What’s it like to stand next to Tesla in his hydroelectric power plant at Niagara Falls, assist him in Colorado Springs or on the platform of the tower on Long Island? What was Tesla’s room like in the famous “New Yorker” hotel, and what was his vision of the future? These scenes are part of the VR exhibition “Experience Tesla” which is coming to the Weekend Media Festival. Behind this unique project is Direct Media, which donated the VR exhibition to the Nikola Tesla Museum in Belgrade for the 160th anniversary of the birth of the great scientist and fifteen years of successful operations of the company.
“How crazy you have to be to start a VR project?” is the title of the presentation that will be held on this occasion on Friday, 23 September, by Voljena Daničić, Innovate & New Media Manager of Direct Media, and Vitomir Jevremović, author of the exhibition and director of Digital Mind.
TIME INC.’S NORMAN PEARLSTINE NAMED PRESIDENT OF THE 2016 EPICA AWARDS JURY
A highly experienced journalist, during his career Mr. Pearlstine has held posts including Managing Editor and then Executive Editor of The Wall Street Journal, Editor-in-Chief of Time Inc., Chief Content Officer of Bloomberg L.P. and Chief Content Officer of Time Inc.
Mr. Pearlstine said: “For a media brand to thrive, it needs great content, best produced by talented and exacting journalists; and supportive advertisers and sponsors. When superb content is complemented by creative advertising, magic can happen. It is my pleasure to be President of the Jury at The Epica Awards this November in Amsterdam, where journalists from around the globe who are specialists in the field celebrate creative advertising. As this year marks the 30th Anniversary of The Epica Awards my only question is, why didn’t you invite me sooner?”
Epica’s Editorial Director Mark Tungate commented: “It is a great honour for us to have a journalist of the calibre of Mr. Pearlstine as our jury President. He has been involved in creating terrific content for some of the world’s biggest media brands, so I’m certain he can provide the objective insights we need to choose our Grand Prix winners.”
Founded in 1987, Epica is the only global creative prize judged by an independent jury of journalists working for marketing and communications titles.
SPARKASSE BANK ALLOCATES 8 THOUSAND EUROS FOR BUSINESS IDEAS OF YOUTH IN BIH
Sparkasse Bank has announced that they have supported the project Social Impact Award (SIA) with 16,000 BAM (€8k), where young people from Bosnia and Herzegovina apply their ideas for the establishment of social businesses, develop ideas and business plans under the mentorship of experts from the industry, and have a chance to win three cash awards for the best business ideas. The ultimate goal of the project is to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit among young people, and help them make their business ideas reality, becoming economically empowered and self-sufficient.
The Social Impact Award (SIA) is the largest program to encourage students to start social business in Europe and is conducted simultaneously in 12 countries. Project in BiH is led by Foundation Dokukino with a number of partners, following the mission of promoting social entrepreneurship among students.
The award ceremony will take place on 29 September 2016.
RETAILERS CAN NOW BUY FACEBOOK ADS THAT ONLY RUN IF THE RIGHT PRODUCTS ARE IN STOCK
It’s an ongoing challenge for retail CMOs to justify to their CFOs that digital ads drive in-store sales. So one can imagine the teeth-gnashing that must take place whenever brick-and-mortar players realize the products in their digital ads were out of stock for a significant time during a campaign. Facebook is therefore debuting a system called “dynamic ads for retail” that will, in theory, eliminate the above pain point. These new ads are designed to allow merchants to only serve Facebook promos of products that are actually available in a chain brand’s location. They come just in time for the holidays, as brands finalize their fourth-quarter ad budgets.
The ads, which are priced on a cost-per-thousand-impressions (CPM) rate, are currently being tested in the US by companies Abercrombie & Fitch, Argos, Macy’s, Target and Pottery Barn. They’ll become more widely available to brands in the coming weeks.
FACEBOOK ACQUIRES NASCENT OBJECTS
Facebook’s latest acquisition is “modular electronics platform” creator Nascent Objects.
CEO of Nascent Objects Baback Elmieh announced the move on the company’s homepage, while Facebook confirmed the acquisition for Re/code, saying that Elmieh and “other key members” of Nascent Objects were joining the company.
Facebook’s Building 8 group was formed in April to drive advancements in connectivity hardware, and it is led by Regina Dugan, former head of Google’s advanced technology and projects group.
Dugan shared the video below on Facebook, illuminating the work done by Nascent Objects.
