Winning design by Ljubiša Gornik on Tuborg packaging in six countries in the region

Gornik's work, inspired by electronic music, DNA sequences and binary code stood out in the competition of 130 designers from six countries

Check out the new limited design cans chosen by you! This is the message of Carlsberg company for their Tuborg brand, which this month hits the shelves of six countries in the region: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bulgaria and Hungary, with a new design.

New visuals for Tuborg are signed by young designers Ljubiša Gornik from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Albena Radeva from Bulgaria. These two artists successfully passed a rigorous jury selection, but also the jury of Tuborg consumers, who were the ones who decided that these designs will be the visuals on a limited edition of Tuborg cans in 2016.

A total of 130 designers from six countries applied for the competition, and their task was to fill the empty space on Tuborg packaging with the best design they can come up with, using professional software such as Photoshop and Illustrator.

A total of five works by authors from the region entered the final selection: two from Serbia, two from Bulgaria and one from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the one by Ljubiša Gornik from Banja Luka.

For all the finalists Tuborg in May provided a prize trip to Berlin, to the TYPO conference, one of the largest design events in the world, where they had the opportunity to attend lectures of experts from the world of typography, design and visual communications.

Of the five finalists, two proposed designs earned the status of winners, and one of them was the work of Ljubiša Gornik, whose name and design will be found on millions of cans of Tuborg beer as of this month in six countries of the region. This kind of promotion for a young designer like him is the best reward he could get.

“I found inspiration in electronic music, which I visually connected with words by turning letters into a binary code that is graphically presented on the label. This was a big challenge for me because Tuborg as a brand deserves that everything about it is superb. I look forward to seeing a can with my design on it live, and I will gladly drink Tuborg out of it,” said Ljubiša, who will soon get his wish.
