Global brands in different cultures, digitalization of radio and revolutionary potential of blockchain technology – this is only a small part of intriguing topics that the regional communications industry will be treated with at the 9th Weekend Media Festival. In the old tobacco factory in Rovinj, under the auspices of the Adris Group, from 22 to 25 of September Weekend will bring more than 120 speakers and about 4,000 media, marketing and PR professionals. They will be joined by 350 students from across the region, and about 550 accredited journalists.
“We have outlined an ambitious goal, and that is that the ninth Weekend will be so good, that everyone will want to come to the tenth anniversary. We’ve again stepped into some new threads and again we are the first to open talks about completely new technologies which will be buzzed about by everyone in a couple of years. Of course, we also didn’t forget entertainment, and this year it will be bigger and even better,” promised Tomo Ricov, director of the Weekend Media Festival.
Speaker roster is led by Shawn Pecas Costner, 18 years veteran from the music industry who led the promotion of musicians such as Rihanna, Young Jeezy, Rick Ross, Ludacris, Big Sean and many others, and is the executive director of the Roc Nation Sports, a company for sports management, owned by the famous hip hop mogul Jay Z. Lazar Džamić, director of strategic planning in several London creative agencies and one of the first digital strategists in the UK, will offer a recipe for nearly perfect advertising through creation of successful messages in the world of easy ignoring. Weekend guests will also be Jarno Vanhatapio and Magnus Emilson, the duo behind NA-KD.com, the Swedish fashion webshop that delivers the goods of the world’s leading brands in more than 100 countries worldwide. “One on one talk” this year is reserved for Zoran Šprajc and CEO of Croatian Telecom Davor Tomašković.
“Speakers already in our program guarantee that again this year in Rovinj we will be able to offer our colleagues from the region information on the latest trends in the world. At the panel discussions we will gather people who in a creative and innovative way connect Croatia and the region with the whole world, and succeed in making the breakthroughs which allow us to say that we are among the world’s top,” said Nikola Vrdoljak, director of Weekend’s program.
Radio is making a grand comeback, so a Weekend panel will try to explain why advertising budgets are growing for a media which many claimed has no future, and what were the innovations that enabled this new rise of the radio? Innovations will also be front and center at a panel on blockchain technology, underlying the most popular virtual currency, Bitcoin, which also provides unlimited opportunities in the banking industry, as well as in public services such as in conclusion of contracts. Panelists on global brands will discuss how to create a global brand and how to manage it in different cultures and environments.
“Rovinj is on a good path toward becoming a global brand, and the Weekend Media Festival is an event that contributes to this by bringing together creative and innovative people from all over the world. These are precisely the values on which the Adris Group is built, and we will continue to promote them, among other things through support of such gatherings,” said Kristina Miljavac from the corporate communications of Adris Group.
Within the 9th Weekend Media Festival, there will again be the regional review BalCannes and SoMo Borac awards. BalCannes is being held for the fifth time, and this year advertisers have an even more important role, because they will select the top 25 projects from six countries of the region and award prizes, among others, for the best agency and project of BalCannes. Entries for BalCannes are open to all interested agencies until 1 September. Digital award SoMo Borac has a new category, SoMoRitanac, intended for the best digital campaign that has contributed to some social cause. Entries for the SoMo Borac are free, and you can find out more at www.somoborac.com.
