Actor François Arnaud works out in the open garage of a family home, while people in the neighborhood increasingly turn to look at him. This simple situation forms the basis of For When It’s Hot, the currently active campaign by Under Armour for a line of clothing and footwear designed for training during warmer days.
The campaign was launched in late July, during a period that is usually considered one of the hottest parts of the year in North America. Instead of a large sports field or professional gym, the action takes place in a residential neighborhood, presenting the products in a setting closer to everyday workouts.
At the same time, Arnaud became Under Armour’s new global ambassador. The collaboration builds on the series Heated Rivalry, in which his character Scott Hunter regularly wears the brand’s gear. The presence of the products in the series attracted viewers’ attention, and Under Armour later expanded that already established connection into an official partnership.
At the center of the campaign is HeatGear, one of the longest-running technologies in the brand’s portfolio. It was developed as a lightweight layer that wicks away moisture and makes training in higher temperatures easier. Products from the UA Vanish Elite, UA Icon Fleece, UA Sola and UA Reign XT lines also appear alongside it.
The spot does not attempt to present training as a competition or a test of endurance. Arnaud performs standard exercises, while the humor comes from the reactions of neighbors who interrupt their activities and try to discreetly follow what is happening in the garage. In this way, the campaign keeps the focus on the products while placing them within a story that draws on Arnaud’s current popularity.
The partnership is part of Under Armour’s broader move toward the worlds of entertainment and popular culture. In recent months, the brand has also announced collaborations with musicians Parker McCollum and Gunna, expanding its list of ambassadors beyond professional sport.
At the same time, For When It’s Hot also shows a change in the way Under Armour presents its product range. Instead of building its communication exclusively around new launches, the company is giving more space to existing products and technologies that play an important role in its identity. In this case, HeatGear served as the basis for a campaign that connects the product, a popular series and a new ambassador partnership.
