Two New International Awards for Studio Tumpić/Prenc

Known for its innovative and visually striking solutions, this studio was awarded at two different international festivals within just two days, once again confirming its position on the European design scene

At this year’s edition of the European Design Awards, held in Ljubljana from June 5 to 8, design studio Tumpić/Prenc won silver for the Famìa project, placing it among just 7% of awarded entries. In addition, their already well-known and multi-award-winning project Istriana achieved a notable result at the Fedrigoni Top Awards competition held in Paris, where it also won silver.

In Ljubljana, a vibrant center of Slovenian design and culture, the 19th edition of the prestigious festival took place—hosted each year by a different country. The event brought together designers, creatives, and industry professionals from across Europe for four days of celebrating creativity, innovation, and visual communication. The festival is known for its rich and diverse program: from inspiring workshops and talks to the central exhibition and the grand awards ceremony. In the historic setting of Grand Hotel Union, the awards night brought the event to a close, and the major recognition for Studio T/P was accepted by Anselmo Tumpić, creative designer and co-founder.

The European Design Awards are among the most important recognitions in European design. They are prestigious annual awards in the field of communication design, launched in 2007 as a joint initiative of several European design magazines and organizations. Unlike similar competitions, the works are not judged by designers, but by design journalists and critics – experts whose profession is to follow and evaluate creative production on a daily basis.

The silver-winning project Famìa was created for a line of extra virgin olive oils from Rovinj, in collaboration with Etikgraf, and its design celebrates and promotes the city. The bottle design was inspired by Rovinj’s architecture – a town developed on a peninsula, with houses of various colours and sizes clustered along the seashore – reflecting the diversity of families who live there. Labels of different colours indicate the oil’s intensity, while the combination of bottles creates a visual composition reminiscent of a Mediterranean town. In addition to enhancing the retail space, the design encourages customers to collect all flavour intensities, creating their own collection and taking home an authentic piece of Rovinj.

The finalist Abracadabra was developed for the Public Open University of the City of Rovinj-Rovigno on the occasion of the Istrian Puppet Theatre Festival. Instead of a classic flyer, the design offers an interactive ‘talking puppet’ that engages audiences of all ages.

After its success in Ljubljana, Studio Tumpić/Prenc achieved yet another major international recognition. Their project Istriana was awarded at the prestigious Fedrigoni Top Awards, among contestants from a total of 27 countries.

The award was accepted on behalf of Studio Tumpić/Prenc by Creative Director Anselmo Tumpić, accompanied by printer representative Paolo Trevisin from Wine & Industrial Packaging, and client Rob Anderson. The awards ceremony was held at the renowned Pavillon Gabriel in Paris, as part of the Fedrigoni Explore 2025 event – an international gathering of leading professionals from the worlds of design, typography, branding, and sustainability. Through inspiring talks and workshops, notable speakers shared their experiences and insights into the latest trends and practices in the creative industry, while the awarded works were also exhibited throughout the event.

Fedrigoni has long been regarded as a symbol of excellence in paper production, and their award is unique in that it simultaneously recognizes and rewards designers, printers, and clients for the best applications of paper and materials. This year’s expert international jury included: Simon Esterson, Director of Esterson Associates, Silvana Amato, prominent editorial design specialist, Paul Boudens, icon of Belgian fashion design, Marianne Givone, creative lead at Diptyque, Gustavo Greco, founder of GRECO Studio, Kate Marlow, co-founder of the London studio Here, Melanie Mues, founder of Mues Design and Art Director of the 2019 Venice Biennale and Sebastián Yañez, co-founder of the agency YG Branding & Design.

Istriana impressed the jury with its contemporary interpretation of fragments of Roman amphorae. The bottle, with visible “cracks,” reveals its interior, and the pigment is enriched with red Istrian soil. Placed in a box made from Fedrigoni paper symbolically named Terra Rossa, the design echoes the silhouette of ancient vessels. After being awarded at competitions such as ADC, D&AD, and Dieline, the Fedrigoni Top Awards recognition further solidifies Istriana’s status as one of the most notable design achievements on the international stage.

But what gives every festival including these its special charm and lasting value is the opportunity to socialize, exchange ideas, and connect with colleagues from around the world’, concluded Anselmo Tumpić.
