For the Super Bowl this weekend Tide pulled out an ad that hijacked all other ads for the big game. At the festival of American football, and arguably a festival of advertising in the US given the prices that advertising at this event entails, Tide made an ad that mimics all other conventional concepts for Super Bowl ads, effectively making viewers think about this product with every ad after it.
In the ad, made by Saatchi & Saatchi New York, Tide humorously plays with the tropes, pulling other P&G brands into its own story, and even makes a jab at a non-P&G brand (Budweiser). In the spot we see classic ads like Mr. Clean and Old Spice reimagined, with great performance from David Harbour, best known for his role in the Netflix hit series “Stranger Things”.
The clever concept from Saatchi & Saatchi and the quirky delivery by Harbour made this probably our favorite ad (or rather a series of ads) for the big game. Take a look for yourself below:
