The award-winning project The Tunnel (Croatia is Croatia – We write our own history) was the first Croatian project that entered the finals of the most prestigious global architectural festival, the World Architecture Festival (WAF-INSIDE), which was held in Amsterdam this year from 28th to 30th November.
Architect Damjan Geber, Creative Director of the agency Brigada, presented the project live in front of the jury and the audience at the festival, and answered many questions about the project itself.
“A specific fact about The Tunnel exhibition is that it was finished only on the day of its closing. Visitors were actively involved in its setup, and their small interventions changed the exhibition on a daily basis. They could incorporate pieces of their personal history and recall events, places and people who evoke special memories in them,” Geber explained.
In the exceptionally strong category of conceptual and artistic interior design, the first prize went to the JAC Studios project, which was also awarded the Grand Prix for the best interior of the world in all categories at the closing ceremony.
To be an equal finalist with the world’s best interior, or with strong international competition in other categories in general, is a great honor and acknowledgment for Croatian interior design.
Some of the most famous global names were in the shortlist, of the likes of BIG, Norman Foster, Zaha Hadid Architects, Neri&Hu, etc. Many interesting lectures were held by architectural super-stars like Rem Koolhaas, David Adjaye, Aaron Betsky and India Mahdavi.
The team of creative agency Brigada thus ends the successful 2018 in a winning tone. Apart from placement in the WAF-INSIDE festival, they have won 10 international awards for various projects, most notably from the International Association of Interior Designers.
