Studio Tumpić/Prenc Wins International IIID Award for the Olivari Project

The signage project for the Olivari thematic park in Fažana has brought another international award to Studio Tumpić/Prenc, while another of the studio’s works has been selected among the finalists of the prestigious Communication Arts competition.

The signage system for the Olivari thematic park, developed for the Fažana Tourist Board, received an award at this year’s IIID Awards in the Didactics category. The award is presented by the International Institute for Information Design (IIID), an organization that has been promoting the development of information design and research in the field for four decades.

The competition is held every three years, and submissions for its sixth edition arrived from more than 32 countries. The winning projects will be published in the official IIIDaward publication and presented as part of an international travelling exhibition.

The Olivari project was created as part of the transformation of an olive grove into an interactive thematic park that combines education, play, and the interpretation of local cultural heritage. The Didactics category recognizes projects focused on educational and instructional information design, and it was precisely this combination of learning and experience that formed the core of the project’s concept.

The visual system is based on the motif of hands as a symbol of human labour and the connection between people and olive cultivation. Stylized elements placed throughout the park establish a relationship with olives and the various activities associated with their production. Some elements depict olive harvesting, collecting, and raking, some serve as carriers of signage information, while others were designed as interactive features for children’s play.

Studio Tumpić/Prenc collaborated on the project with Tamara Nikolić Đerić, while SINAM was responsible for the production and installation of the signage system.

In addition to its success at the IIID Awards, the studio achieved another international recognition. The cover of the catalogue Lab’Bel: Rires en Boîtes, created for the artistic laboratory of Groupe Bel, was selected as a finalist in the Communication Arts competition, one of the most renowned international recognitions in the field of visual communications.

The catalogue reinterprets the iconic packaging of The Laughing Cow® brand. Its opening mechanism is inspired by the way the circular processed cheese box is opened, while diagonal lines and a metallic finish further emphasize the brand’s identity. The interior of the publication connects the works of twelve artists through a playful graphic system that gives the entire project a distinctive visual coherence.
