Photo-recognition of objects as a unique application of artificial intelligence on the global advertising market attracted students of renowned universities from around the world to Croatia’s classified ads site Njuškalo.
This is a part of practical classes at the Algebra International Winter School held in Zagreb. As part of the program, Algebra takes the participants to so-called job shadowing in Croatian companies, and this time students chose Njuškalo, because of their initiatives in the field of AI, machine learning and other innovative technologies.
Students had the opportunity to talk with top local experts on application of AI to a concrete solution that gives users much faster and easier method of ad delivery.
The opportunity to improve their professional competencies in Njuškalo was used by 25 students from Australia, France, Brazil, India and the US, and have firsthand learned about the developmental phases of photo recognition feature and details of its success after it was launched in early 2018.
“I’m extremely pleased that foreign students have recognized the effort we invested to develop the first such application of AI, which has positioned us on the map of the world’s most innovative companies in the classified ads area, and at the same time among the leading digital companies. The concept, design and realization of photo-recognition in the best way confirm the potentials of Croatian young professionals in the most advanced technological trends. We will certainly continue to develop the environment and benefits of Njuškalo as a professional home for such talents, as well as all those interested from abroad, such as Algebra participants,” said Sanda Soptija Šiljak, Chief Executive Officer of Njuškalo.
Photo recognition is part of the Njuskalo’s app for ad placement on mobile devices, developed by Njuškalo’s Product Development Department, members of the Styria Data Science team and Trikoder and Undabot companies.
Algebra students also talked with Anamarija Vujaklija, Product Development Manager from Njuškalo, and Marko Velić, Head of the Styria Data Science team. They told them that this is a unique machine-learning based solution with a database of more than one million ads on Njuskalo platform, and allows users to quickly and accurately position items in the relevant category by using the application.
There are more than 1400 ad categories on this platform, due to which some users sometimes don’t know how to choose the right category to make their ad most effective.
