Type Directors Club (TDC) has appointed six new members to its Advisory Board, whose role is to propose ideas, provide feedback on the organization’s work and connect it with different communities. Beginning two-year terms are Gary Fogelson, Beatriz Lozano, Monika Marek-Łucka, Audrie Poole, Nina Stössinger and Rich Tu.

For Lozano, founder and creative director of the studio Ancho, joining the board represents a continuation of a relationship that began when she moved to New York nearly a decade ago. As she explains, the community around TDC broadened her understanding of design and connected her with mentors who helped her career. Now based in Mexico City, she hopes to help build similar support for young designers across national and language boundaries through the education and events committees.

The new members also include Fogelson, a partner at the Brooklyn studio Other Means, and Marek-Łucka, TDC Archive Curator, from the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Warsaw. Stössinger joins from the Brooklyn-based company Frere-Jones Type, where she works as a senior type designer.

New York-based Sunday Afternoon is represented among the new members by Poole, executive producer and partner, and Tu, executive creative director and partner. Tu is also an ADC Young Guns 8 winner, and connects his decision to join the board with the changes technology is bringing to the creative industry.

In his view, human expression is growing in importance as ways of creating evolve, while typography remains a reflection of culture and identity. He sees the increasingly fluid boundaries between art, design and technology as an opportunity for TDC to recognize both the quality of the work and the people changing established approaches in the industry.

The Advisory Board operates on a volunteer basis. TDC President Chris Sergio is Creative Head at Macmillan Publishers Group in New York, while Joe Newton serves as Executive Director. Entries are currently open for the TDC73 competition. The early bird deadline for digital and physical entries is January 22, 2027, after which entry fees increase. The regular deadline is February 12, and the final deadline is March 5, 2027.
