The organisers of SEMPL have announced that this year’s edition of the conference will not take place. After more than two decades of bringing together professionals from the fields of media, marketing and communications from across the region, they have decided to take a pause and use this period to reflect on the platform’s future development and the role it can play in an industry that is evolving rapidly.
Their statement is in full below:
This year, SEMPL is taking time for reflection. After more than two decades of growth, bringing the industry together and following the most important developments in the media, marketing and communications landscape, we have decided not to hold this year’s conference. Instead, we will use this period to reflect on SEMPL’s future development and the role it can play in an industry that is evolving rapidly.
Over the past two decades, SEMPL has grown into one of the region’s leading professional platforms for marketing, media and communications. As a meeting place for ideas, knowledge, experience and people, it has connected numerous professionals, companies, media organizations, agencies, advertisers and other stakeholders who contribute to the development of the communications industry. At the same time, it has provided the professional community with valuable insights into the latest media trends, groundbreaking industry innovations and the future of the profession.
Today, the communications, media and marketing landscape is changing faster than ever before. Audience habits are evolving, media business models are being redefined, the role of brands is shifting, partner expectations are changing, technology is advancing, and the ways in which the industry understands creativity, effectiveness, responsibility and trust continue to evolve. In such an environment, we believe it is important that brands with a long history and a clearly defined role within the industry know when to pause, take a broader view and reconsider their future direction.
Throughout its history, SEMPL has demonstrated that its strength lies not only in tradition and continuity, but also in its ability to recognize change. It is precisely this approach that has enabled SEMPL to remain relevant to industry professionals, partners, speakers, attendees and the wider regional community over the years.
We therefore view the decision not to hold the conference this year as a responsible step. We intend to use this period for a thorough reflection on SEMPL’s future development and the role it can play in the years ahead. We want to better understand the issues that matter most to the industry today and identify the kind of platform for professional discussion, networking and inspiration that the region needs.
We are grateful to all partners, speakers, members of the professional community, attendees and friends of SEMPL who have helped shape its story over the years and contributed to its reputation both locally and across the region. Without their trust, expertise and support, SEMPL would not have become what it represents today.
We will keep the public informed of all future activities related to the SEMPL brand in due course.
