After a successful last year, which was marked by numerous authentic exhibits, at the beginning of the new season New Moment Gallery will treat art lovers with an exhibition by Gordan Nikolić, author characteristic for rare exhibitions, although he won numerous awards and is highly appreciated in professional circles. This fact alone would be enough to highlight the importance of Nikolić’s solo exhibition, but this exhibition is also special in that the works which were chosen are those that allow the creativity of Gordan Nikolić to be viewed from a new perspective.
“The selection of recent works by Gordan Nikolić which will be displayed in the Gallery New Moment, due to the lack of recognizable motifs, may struck art lovers as a significant shift from the conceptual orientation so far. In the artistic context of his own environment, Nikolić in fact built his recognizable artistic profile as an artist of figurative direction, focused on the theme of the face and the mask, while his later works are, conditionally speaking, abstract, or devoid of these mentioned characteristics,” said Prof. Ješa Denegri on this occasion.
Such a selection of the exhibited works will be an opportunity for the operating procedure of the author, a process of long, layered construction of an image and the question of completion of the artwork, to stand out in the foreground and thus contribute to consideration of the complex and homogeneous Nikolić’s creativity.
Gordan Nikolic (1951) was born in Deževa near Novi Pazar. He graduated in 1982 and received a master’s degree in 1985 at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade in the class of prof. Radenko Mišević. He is a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, painting department, and has also worked as a visiting professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje, as well as at other art colleges and academies. He is a member of the Association of Fine Artists of Serbia (ULUS) and the winner of numerous awards. His works are in museums and private collections at home and abroad.
The exhibition will be opened by prof. Vladimir Kostić, academician, president of SASA and professor of the School of Medicine, University of Belgrade. Exhibition will be on display until 24 April.
