Croatian Association for Public Relations is the publisher of the first university textbook of public relations in Croatia, titled “Odnosi s javnošću” (Public Relations) by Ana Tkalec Verčič, PhD.
This textbook is an extremely important contribution to public relations as a modern communications discipline in Croatia and the region. After the expert review by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of Croatia, Odnosi s javnošću became the first book that combines practical and theoretical knowledge in our profession and has the status of a university textbook.
Through fifteen chapters this book treats topics such as the history of PR, theory of communication, crisis communications, social media, public relations and marketing. Also, what makes this book stand out are the practical examples that have been presented through case studies by top experts in public relations.
James E. Gruning, professor emeritus of the Department of Communication at the University of Maryland (USA) points out that the importance of this book is in its approach to readers, which it introduces to a number of theories relevant to students and professionals all over the world. He points out that theories include the role of public relations in organizational strategic management, the relations between the various functions of management and public relations, the theory of the public and stakeholders, communication theories such as the theory of diffusion, the theory of agenda, persuasion, two-way communication and ethics and points out: “The author further exposes the program of action planning, implementation and evaluation of programs of public relations. In addition, it clarifies the importance of conducting research, problem identification, goal setting and planning before the implementation of the program – a step that most practitioners in the world (and probably in Croatia) usually underestimate.”
